Ten cents from every kilo goes to Hive Futures.
For every kilogram of green coffee Marcus & Beams sells, we give 10¢ to the Hive Futures Foundation. That’s $6 from every 60-kilogram bag.
It’s a fixed amount per kilo, not a share of profit, so it doesn’t shrink in a hard year.
Why school fees
There’s a Kikuyu saying, Wega uumaga na mũciĩ: goodness begins at home. Alex missed long stretches of secondary school because the fees weren’t there. The Foundation exists so that bright students from Kenya’s farming communities don’t have to. Read our story
What the Foundation does
Hive Futures pays school fees in full, through all three years of Senior School, for bright, financially vulnerable learners in agricultural communities in Kenya, with emphasis on regions served by the coffee and tea trade. Its scholars, called Futures, also get mentoring and introductions. Futures who finish in good standing may receive support for university, college or technical training, reviewed each year.
How we keep it honest
Our commitment is set out in a written agreement between Marcus & Beams and the Foundation. We pay it quarterly, based on the kilos we sell, and publish the total here each year.
Hive Futures Foundation is a Pennsylvania nonprofit recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. It is a separate organization from Marcus & Beams International LLC and Vortex Hive Ltd.
Donations go straight to the Foundation, never through Marcus & Beams.
